candle care & safety

Follow this guide to maximize burn time and stay safe while burning our candles:

 

• never leave a candle burning unattended

• keep away from children and pets

• burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface

• do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time

• for candles made with wooden wicks, make sure your wick is trimmed to .2"/5mm above the wax before lighting the first time. For every burn after that, you can trim the wick to where the wood naturally breaks off before lighting. To do this, it's helpful to use a wick trimmer. We've got one for you in our candle care kit here.

• ensure our cotton wick candles are trimmed to .25"/6mm above the wax before lighting

• for our pillar candles, make sure they are burned on a stable, heat-resistant plate or dish that is big enough to contain all of the melted wax

• allow jar candles to melt to the edge of the vessel to prevent tunneling (on average it takes about 2 hours)

• stop burning your candle when 1/2" of wax remains in our jar candles and at least 1" of wax remaining in our pillar candles

• keep away from flammable objects

• keep wax pool free from debris

• keep away from drafts, currents and ceiling fans

• use in a well-ventilated space

• never move a burning candle

• never use a candle as a nightlight or leave it burning while you sleep

• extinguish your flame with a proper candle snuffer (we've got one for you here)

• if your candle's flame gets too high or begins to smoke, extinguish immediately

 

Other helpful tips:

• if you would like to "burn" your candle without an actual flame, you can melt it with one of our wax warmers

• reuse and upcycle your candle jar! For example, they can be used as flower vases and makeup brush holders. Be creative!

• educate yourself on how to safely extinguish a candle that has caught fire
